Why the Olympic Flame Was Never in Danger

Every couple of years, the Olympic Torch Relay winds from Greece (where the flame is lit in a traditional ceremony via the light of the sun) to the host city for the games of that year. Every time this respected tradition takes place, some scoundrel tries to extinguish or steal the flame. Not surprisingly, this year was no exception. As was reported by many news agencies, an attempt was made to steal the torch from a fleet-footed runner’s hands as it traveled through Kent, England.
