Overburdened, Understaffed IT Department? There’s a Solution For That.

Oct 29, 2014
  • HA/DR
Like everyone else, during the Great Recession IT departments suffered budget cuts, hiring freezes and layoffs. They did not, however, get a reduction in responsibility. As a matter of fact, during this time new legislation mandating high availability and disaster recovery ramped up, as did consumer-driven demand for technologies and services that require more data storage and management. If you’re in IT, and you feel like you could use a nice long vacation, you’re not alone. Out of necessity, IT departments have been slogging forward with a mix of old and new technologies and low headcounts for years now, so it’s difficult to convince management to cut anyone a break. Migrate to the Cloud with No Impact on Production – or Productivity

Aug 18, 2014
  • Migration
  • Cloud
IT managers are under pressure to do more with less. Virtualizing servers and moving to the Cloud is a great way to accomplish this. Streamlining operations, reducing costs and improving performance via virtualization and Cloud infrastructure makes sense and is an easy sell, but getting from here to there can be a nightmare. As soon as servers go down, as soon as staff can’t work, as soon as customers can’t buy things or contact support – an IT manager’s worst fears become reality. What the industry needs is a way to implement new cost-saving technologies while keeping the status quo in production.

Cloud and VM migrations: No Longer High Risk

Aug 12, 2014
  • Migration
  • Cloud
Downtime, data loss, increased operation complexity and costs; all symptoms of a migration gone wrong. Moving critical workloads off of physical machines onto virtual and cloud infrastructure can improve performance and lower costs. But the move itself is high risk. At least, it used to be.

Jun 24, 2014
  • Migration
For a variety of reasons, most organizations have multiple database types in their IT environments. The problem is, supporting all these different databases is expensive: You need at least one knowledgeable staff member for each platform, managers have to oversee multiple maintenance contracts, and administrators have to stay on top of all the hardware needed to support the systems. Obviously, consolidating databases is the answer, but migration can be costly and risky, right?
